Back pain is a big problem in this country and as busy Staines chiropractors we spend a lot of our time correcting people’s problems with simple changes. There are definitely every day changes that most of us could take that would make a huge difference to the strength and health of our backs. Below are 7 excellent ways to look after your back;
- Lose extra weight – If you’re carrying around too much weight your are putting unnecessary pressure on your body and back and this can obviously cause you problems further down the line.
- Lifting heavy objects – Be careful when lifting heavy objects and follow good practices to avoid damage.
- Distribute the weight – If you’re shopping or carry a bunch of things it can be all too easy to put it in one bag or carry it under one arm. Don’t do this because it will put too much pressure on side of your back and cause problems.
- Get active – Inactivity is very bad for your back. So why not exercise is a bit, avoid sitting down for longer than 30 minutes and get walking more.
- Practice good posture – Poor posture can cause a lot of pain and it is not good for the health of your back at all. So stop slouching and sit up and stand straight.
- Relax a little bit – Stress is one of the biggest causes of back pain so calm down and relax a little bit.
- Stop smoking – It is thought that smoking actually damages the discs in your back by reducing the supply of blood to the area. Stop smoking and this will stop (as well as all the other health benefits too).
