It’s no big secret that water is essential to good health. But did you know it plays a significant role in the health of our spines too?
Our team at Pure Chiropractic in Staines treat a lot of patients with chronic back pain; and dehydration is a more common cause than many people realise.
The disks in the spine rely on water to function. These disks contain two parts: an outer, flexible but very tough ring, which is filled with a gel-like substance, and an inner section which is made up of mostly water. This water gets squeezed out during the day. During the night, the disks need to rehydrate themselves, but this is only possible when there is a sufficient amount of water in the body. If there’s not, the disk becomes compromised which can result in the development of painful back conditions.
Your spine relies on water to survive – just like you do.
